State Sectionals

The order of events and list of athletes competing tomorrow has been posted. Athletes will be excused after their fifth period classes and the bus will leave at 12:45, those who aren't competing will have the day off. Also, for everyone interested in spring track, there will be a meeting on Friday February 8th after school in the LGI.

Forms should be submitted to Ms. Covello in the Main Office of the Main Building on the following dates during lunch periods.
  • February 5th, 7th, 12th and 14th
  • Physicals will be on February 12th from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm in the Main Building – LGI Room.
  • You must have a Parent/Guardian permission slip in order to have a physical.
  • Completed sports forms will be accepted on February 12th starting at 2:45pm in the Main Building – LGI.  

1/31 Update

We will still meet in the freshman building after school, the pipe burst did not affect the heat in the building.

No Practice

Due to potential weather conditions, all after-school and school-based evening activities are cancelled. YMCA aftercare will still operate on a normal schedule. Due to this there will be no practice today. Tomorrow throwers and JV/Freshman will meet in the freshman building at 3pm, athletes who lift/go to ocean breeze will meet at woodman field at 2:30. All athletes are asked to do the workout posted below;

Warm up 
10 sets of 20 California jumping jacks
Followed by runner warm up on the Nike app

Workout 
6 sets of 1 min high knees, 1 min squats, 1 crunches, 1 min A skip 1 min rest.

Core
4 sets of 50 crunches, 40 russian twist, 30 toe touches, 20 sprinter crunches, 10 leg raises minute plank, squat jumps. Rest for 2 minutes

Cool down: 
5 sets of 20 California jumping jacks
Followed by runner flexibility on the Nike App

Tomorrow throwers will leave from Midland ave for their meet at 2:45, athletes who practice offsite will also be leaving from Midland ave at 2:45. Everyone else will meet on the second floor of the freshman building. Also, for those doing spring sports and in need of physicals, the athletic department will be providing physicals in the LGI from 5pm to 7:30pm.
  • You must have a Parent/Guardian permission slip in order to have a physical.
  • Completed sports forms will be accepted on January 29th starting at 2:45pm in the Main Building – LGI Room.

This week all athletes will have practice at 2:30. We understand that school gets out earlier but this gives athletes the time to meet with teachers, eat and study. Tomorrow throwers will meet at the freshman building and everyone else will meet at woodman field. Again athletes will meet at their training areas at 2:30.

Bullis Invitational

The list of who is competing and their prospective events has been posted. The bus will be leaving from woodman field at 2pm tomorrow, below you will find admission fees for this event as well as the tentative schedule.

After team pictures throwers will go to the freshman building and have practice at 2pm, hurdlers will not have practice until 3pm in the freshman building everyone else will be informed about their practice time and location after team pictures are done. The schedule for tomorrows meet and the athletes who have been accepted will be posted by noon today.

Team Photo & Spring Track Info

Tomorrow at 1:30pm we will be taking our team photo in the main gym, all athletes are asked to wear their team long sleeve shirt that they received for this season. If you do not have the shirt please wear something that has Montclair on it. Please see the information below in regards to registering and being cleared for spring sports.

As you all know there was a meeting on Tuesday, January 22nd at 6:30pm in the auditorium at the main building to explain the registration process and begin accepting sports forms.  Forms are posted on our athletic website for you to print and fill out.

If you played in a fall and/or winter sport this school year and your physical is dated after March 1, 2018, the only form you need to turn in is the 90 day update form.  If your physical has expired, you will need to hand in a new physical (4 sheets of paper).
If you did not register on Family ID this school year you will need to submit the following forms:
  • Valid sports physical (4 sheets)
  • 90 Day Update Form (If your physical was prior to November 30th, 2018)
  • Opioid Use and Misuse Fact Sheet Sign Off
  • Steroid Release Form
  • Sudden Cardiac Death Sign Off
  • Impact Test Date (If completed)

State Relays

Athletes competing tomorrow will be excused from their 6th period class. This will give you enough time to eat and change before getting on the bus, which will leave from Midland ave at 1pm. Throwers will have practice right after school in the freshman building; everyone else will have the day off. All athletes will meet on the second floor of the freshman building on Thursday after school.

Spring Sports

The athletic department will be holding a spring athletic registration meeting tonight at 6:30pm in the auditorium at MHS. The registration process for the spring season will be changing temporarily and this meeting will give you all the information you need to register your child. Tonight is for any parent/guardian that would like to come and register their son/daughter for a spring sport.

Tomorrow the group of athletes who go to Ocean Breeze will leave from Midland ave at 1pm, throwers will meet at the freshman building at 3pm. JV and freshman runners will have no practice and should do the home workout below. Also, please see the updated list for state relays, only these people will be excused from class on Wednesday. We are looking to get a 1pm bus so athletes will be excused from 6th period on so they will have time to change, eat lunch and make it to the bus. Once we finalize the bus details it will be posted on the blog.

County Championship

The start time for County´s has been moved back to 11am due to this change the bus will be leaving from woodman field at 8:50am. The event list has been posted, athletes competing tomorrow please bring extra water, the last time we were at Ocean Breeze they were having a water issue. Also, for those athletes not competing there will be no practice tomorrow; please do the home workout below and keep an eye on the blog in regards to practice on Tuesday.


Warm up 
10 sets of 20 California jumping jacks
Dynamics or Light stretching if there's no room for dynamics

Workout 
6 sets of 1 min high knees, 1 min squats, 1 min push ups, 1 min A skip 1 min rest.

30 crunches, 25 toe touches, 20 reverse crunches, 1 minute plank (30 sec elbows/30 sec hands), 50 jumping jacks. Rest and repeat 4 times.

Cool down: 
10 sets of 20 California jumping jacks

Due to the state of emergency declared for Saturday the Group 4 State Relays have been postponed to Wednesday January 23rd at 3:45pm. All athletes who were expected to compete should meet at woodman field for 8am practice. Throwers will have the day off.

Meet and Pep Rally

The pep rally has been cancelled. For those athletes competing, the bus will leave from Midland avenue at 2:45, the first race goes off at 4:30pm. The order of events for tomorrow has been posted, for the athletes competing on Saturday the order of events and those running has been posted as well (some relays are subject to change). As of now the bus is leaving at 7am on Saturday however, keep an eye on the blog just in case the meet start time changes due to incoming weather. If your name is not on the list for Saturday you are running tonight.

Throwers will have practice today from 3-4pm in the freshman building; runners competing on Saturday should do the workouts below on the nike app;

Stanner Games

The schedule for the meet and athletes competing has been posted. The bus will be leaving at 6:30am, athletes from Woodman field, please be on time. This will be one of the longer meets on our schedules so make sure to bring food, snacks, water and money so if you need to you can purchase items from the food court at the armory.

For those of you not competing please do the workout below;

Warm up

Parent Meeting

The parent meeting scheduled for Friday has been moved to Monday (January 7th). It will be held in the LGI at 6:30pm, parents will be caught up on the season and how things will go moving forward. Information in regards to our booster club and fundraising ideas will be addressed, as well as any questions or concerns parents may have.

Happy New Year

Just a reminder that there is no practice today. Take the time to rest, recover and get ready to go back to school tomorrow. For athletes competing the bus will leave from midland avenue at 1:30pm; you will be excused from your 7th and 8th period classes. Athletes competing tomorrow do not just lay around all day today, the workout below isn’t too hard just something to get the blood flowing (active recovery.... all athletes should do the workout below today. For those not competing there will be no practice tomorrow and we will see you all on Thursday after school at woodman field.
